On Sunday, February 3, 2019, the police discovered that a break-in had occurred at the BNP Paribas Fortis bank branch in Antwerp. It turned out that the perpetrators had accessed the vault through a tunnel from a nearby apartment.
The loot was never recovered, although a few suspects were arrested. In a newspaper photo of one of them, Bart van Nuffelen recognized someone who had installed a new washing machine for him. That was the beginning of a two-year-long search that would ultimately lead to a podcast—one that delves into much more than just a Hollywood-worthy bank heist.
